Snowshoe Hikes
Winter Park has some of the best snowshoe trails in Colorado! You can get a
trail map at the Chamber of Commerce in town if you'd like to go explore on
your own, or go on a guided tour. The Chamber of Commerce gives free
beginner snowshoe tours on selected weekends of the winter, call 800-903-7275
for dates and times.
Snowshoe rentals are available at Guest Services in the Balcony House at the
base of Winter Park Resort. There are a few trails you can explore at the ski
area or you can take a guided tour for a fee. Call
800.729.7907 for tour reservations & information.
You can also rent snowshoes and explore the trails at Devil's Thumb Ranch or at Snow Mountain Ranch. Both of these are nordic centers with over 100
kilometers of trails and gorgeous views.
Cross-country Skiing
Devil's Thumb Ranch, (800) 933-4339, has awesome cross country skiing. You
can rent equipment and head out onto countless trails. They also have a
luxurious spa and great restaurants.
Snow Mountain Ranch, or the YMCA of the Rockies, also has tons of
cross-country trails. Their rentals and trail passes are less
expensive than it's counterpart, but you won't find the state-of-the-art spa or
restaurants. You will find a tubing hill, swimming pool and other
activities, though.
You can also find hundreds of miles of back-country trails for cross-country
skiing,
which are free to use if you have your own skis or have rentals. These trails
aren't groomed like they are at the above nordic centers, so it's best to have
a little experience or go with someone else who does. Maps are available at the
Chamber of Commerce in downtown Winter Park, 800-903-7275.
Hot Sulphur Springs
Hot Sulphur Springs (970) 725-3306 - Where the Ute Indians once bathed, healed mind, body, and spirit and
relaxed in sacred waters... at 7,600 feet elevation. The Springs has been in operation continually for the past
140 years. There are now 22 pools and private baths plus a new jet spa and outdoor oriental bath and solarium
pool. They have massages and body wraps too. We like going here - definitely unique. Many of the upper and
private pools do not allow children to enter. They have to stay in a specific area. For information,
http://www.hotsulphursprings.com or call.
This is about a 40 minute drive from Winter Park.
Grand County Historical Museums
Whether you're a history buff or just curious about how the Winter Park and Grand County area developed, the Grand County Historical Society and it's three area museums are a great source for a fun and interesting way to spend a day.
Tubing & Sledding
Fraser Tubing Hill (970) 726-5954 -Bring the whole family for a snow tubing adventure. This is a hit to
everyone we've ever talked to whether they are 3 years or 70 years old. Located behind the Alco shopping
center in Fraser. Go thru the town of Winter Park on I-40 to Fraser - turn left at the first (main) traffic
light and you will see it ahead of you. Groups welcome. They do charge about $12/hour for kids and $14/hour
for adults but it's worth it. Good article about it at:
http://www.coloradoan.com/news/coloradoanpublishing/Winteractive2004/frasier.html
Ice Skating
Cooper Creek Square Rink - Skating is free, skates may be rented at nearby Christy Sports (726-8873) or the
Viking Lodge (726-8885). Located near Cooper Creek shopping center, in the middle of town on the left-hand side
(large open air shopping center)
Hot Air Balloon Rides
Grand Adventures Balloon Tours (970) 887-1340 - for reservations and information go to
