People aren’t the only ones who enjoy the crispness of fall and start to look forward to the first snowfall, the huskies of Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park are also howlin’ with happiness about the cooler temperatures and predictions of big snow. They will be running one cart ride on both Saturday and Sunday mornings through mid October. After that, they will run multipe rides throughout the day. The cart ride is $125 for 1 or 2 people. If you aren’t into the riding, but would still like to see the dogs, you can go on a kennel tour for $15/ adults and $7.50/kids. If you happen to visit on October 18th, be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to Zeus! Thought I would share some photos of our Winter Park Mountain bike ride up in Rendezvous and Idlewild . What great trail are up there. Kinda rolling hills with some old jeep trail and some decent uphill if you want and some great downhill. We usually start up Meadow trail then turn on to Ditch trail and do the Burnout loop. There is a great ranch house back there that is really cool. The owner of that place has a one cool pad, see below. Not sure how they get into and out of the place but what a cool secluded retreat.
This is the best time of year for mountain biking up here in Winter Park so get out while you can. There are so many mountain bike trails here it is incredible. Stop in at Grand Sports and Dan the owner has some maps and lots of knowledge about biking the area.
As for getting to the sweet mountain biking in Rendezvous take the main entrance into the Rendezvous development from US Highway 40 and go all the way up and turn right on Friendship Drive. At the point you ar forced to go left or right take a left and fifty yards up there is the Meadows trail head on your right.
I have been told that the Rendezvous sales office has some maps of the trails up in the area.
September is the time of year up here for mountain biking. Come on up and see how amazing Winter Park is in the fall.

What can two couples do who have 4 kids under the age of 5 do on a Monday morning in Grand County? We have the answer.
Our friends from Denver came over today and we put the kiddos in Burleys and a tandem hook up, and then took them on the Granby to Fraser bike trail, although we didn’t make it all the way to Fraser nor did we start in Granby. We got on the trail from the Pole Creek Golf Course entrance off of Hwy 40 and followed it down towards Tabernash. What a fun trail! Thomas, the oldest child, said the whole time “Mommy! I’m mountain biking!” and even tried to peddle to help mom up the big hill at the end.
The trail from Granby all the way to Winter Park goes along Hwy 40 but often trees make the highway not even visible. There are ups and downs, bridges and streams, and you can’t beat the views. Take a photo and it may qualify for the family holiday card.
August 14th to 16th is one of the biggest weekends of the summer in the Winter Park, when the Annual Salute to American Veterans Rally rolls into town. Thousands of veterans, bikers & patriots gather together to honor America’s fallen heroes and active military. It is the largest and longest running veteran/motorcycle event in the Western US and is tons of fun. Check out some of the highlights below. In addition, there will be free live music all weekend!

- Veterans Parade with military flyovers in Winter Park.
- Remembrance Ceremony with former US Air Force Fighter Pilot Brigadier General Steve Ritchie.

Goody’s – Now Open in the Village
The Village at Winter Park has a third restaurant finally and this one will be great for the morning skiers passing by. It’s a creperie (breakfast place) with ice cream too. We stopped in for ice cream last week and were impressed with the digs.
They are still getting the kinks worked out (they never charged us – fine by us!) but it looks to be a much needed venue for morning breakfast on a cold morning. We’ll post more of the menu tomorrow. Everything looks priced right except for the ice cream. $3.00 for one scoop and it wasn’t generous. They either need to make it look like a giant scoop or lower the price.
Sing it, Cowgirl!
Come sing your favorite campfire songs around a roaring fire July 21, at Winter Park Resort at the Discovery Center.
There will be stories and songs to delight cow pokes of all ages. The best part is that it’s FREE!! The flames come up at 4:30 and the tales of the Great West continue until 6pm.
You might want to bring along a blanket for your saddle sore bum.
What a great place to really look at the stars, on top of a mountain. Winter Park Resort is offering free Star Safaris tonight and next Thursday from 8:30-10:30pm where you can look through high-powered telescopes and use a laser to pinpoint stars and planets. The speakers are eager to share their knowledge about the science of the stars. The program is free. The only thing you will need to bring is warm clothes and your love of the night time sky. It can still get chilly in the mountains after the sun goes down.
The speakers will be professors from the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Don’t miss this event in Winter Park. There will be more “cruisers” than you’ve ever seen in one place. Saturday, July 18th, is a big day for all bikes, cruisers and mountain bikes alike. Fat Tire Beer and the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a great summer fun day at Hideaway Park, downtown WP and at the Winter Park base. Up at the Winter Park Base, you will find hundreds, 800 to be exact, mountain bikers amped up to take on the mountain and each other. 
The 18th Annual Fat Tire Downhill Mountain Bike Race will benefit the American Red Cross and the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Registration /check in is open from 6-9am. Find out the winners at the awards ceremony that night in Hideaway Park at 6:30pm.
If you aren’t out to test your endurance with a race, you’ll still have a blast at the festivities in Hideaway Park. Watch the stunt teams at 2pm and 4pm in the stunt park. Be sure to find a good spot to watch the cruiser bike parade at 3pm. But why sit on the side of the action when you can enter your decorated bike and travel in the parade yourself. Around 4:30pm get ready to dance until 6pm. You can rest your legs while the Fat Tire awards are given out at 6pm and rev it up again until 8pm with more live music. We took our 21 month old twins down to the fantastic new Winter Park Village today and we were very impressed with all the new shops, flowers and attractions that have been installed for their first summer. As you can see in the photo, Mr. Willem was very concerned with who yeilds to who and what 3.5 MPH really means. Nicholas Nut on the other hand was busy chasing the bicycle that whizzed by him. Seriously, the village is great for kids of all ages and adults. Come on out and see all the new Winter Park Village attractions and events. The highlight of our trip was getting the twins on the cabriolet (mobile tea cups as you can see below). For all the kids there is the new ice cream/creperie shop, Goody’s, that served up a great cotton candy shake (tasted very much like strawberry) and a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream. For the aduts there is the Cheeky Monk and Lime. There is also the Winter Park alpine slide and all the attractions that have returned from years past. What a great way to spend a beautiful day in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
