Winter Activities for Kids
Hideaway Park Sledding Hill - FREE
A fun little sledding hill with sleds provided! It's a huge hit for kids
of all ages, and best of all, it's completely free. Just get the kids bundled up and let 'em loose on the sleds.
Feel free to stop by the Visitor Center across the street for more information on things to do while the kids are at the hill.
Call 970-726-4118 or 800-903-7275 for more info. Click here to see a map of downtown Winter Park with Hideaway Park's location.
Cooper Creek Square Ice Skating Rink - FREE
Right across from the Cooper Creek Square shopping center and covered by the parking garage is a cute little ice skating
rink that is free for all to use. They don't have any rentals right at the rink, so if you don't have your own ice skates,
just go to the Viking Lodge or Christy Sports, just next door to get some. Click here
to see the location of the parking garage (#2 on map).
Kid's Night Out - FREE (sort of, read on...)
This weekly event combines a night out for mom and dad, fun activities for the kids and shopping! Here's how it works: For $30 per child, the Kids Ski & Ride School will provide fun activities and free dinner at Doc's Roadhouse. While they're gleefully entertained and fed, mom and dad can go have dinner at the Cheeky Monk or other Village restaurant, catch up on gift shopping, or purchase new ski gear. Then, take your receipts when you pick up the kids. They'll refund you the amount that you spent at the Village, up to $30 per child. The program is open for kids aged 4-12, and is from 5:30 to 8:30pm every Thursday until April 8, 2010. Call 800-729-7907 to reserve your space, by 3pm of the Thursday you'd like to register.
Snowshoe Hikes - FREE
This is a great way to burn some energy and explore the beauty of the area on a day off from skiing. The Winter Park Visitor Center
does free guided snowshoe hikes every Fri-Sun. Snowshoes are provided, so all you need to do is tip your guide a few bucks.
Be sure to call to sign up, since there is a limit on how many people can go. Their number is 970-726-4118 or 800-903-7275. Our partner
Ski Broker also has snowshoe rentals so you can head out with a trail map to explore on your own- give them a call to see if they have any
available. Their number is 970-726-8882 or 800-544-2431. You can also rent snowshoes from Christy Sports at Cooper Creek Square.
Story Hour at the Fraser Valley Library
Head to Story Hour for fun stories, sing-a-longs and puppets to entertain the kids. Every Monday and Tuesday
at 10am at the Fraser Valley Library.
For more info, go to the Fraser Valley Library's
Children's Programs website.
Snow Mountain Ranch Activities - Affordable
Also known as the YMCA of the Rockies, this place has lots of things to do, and you don't have to pay a lot of money to do them. You don't
need to be a member to take part of the fun, but it's even cheaper if you are. There is a sledding & tubing hill, covered outdoor ice
skating rink, indoor pool, indoor climbing wall, 150K of cross-country ski & snowshoe trails, and sleigh rides
with Sombrero Stables (we have discounts). For most activities you only pay for a daily activity pass ($10-$15 for an entire family),
and there is a minimal fee to rent sleds, tubes or ice skates. Call 970-887-2152 ext 4173 for information.
